Yesudas took the award home

Interestingly, all the songs on the soundtrack of Dada (1979) were penned by different people, and Dil Ke Tukde Tukde Karke – the most popular song in the film – was penned by Kulwant Jani.

The Usha Khanna composition could be translated to, “You broke my heart into many pieces, smiled and left”.

It was rendered by K J Yesudas, who won his only Filmfare Award in the Best Male Playback Singer category in 1980.

It was no mean feat, given the fact that the nominees included the likes of Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and Nitin Mukesh.
