This mockery of Kaaliram rocK(ishor)ed

While Gabbar Singh, Amjad Khan’s character in Sholay (1975), will forever be etched in the memories of Hindi film buffs, he has essayed many memorable characters since.

And one of these – Kaaliram, from Barsaat Ki Ek Raat – has even been immortalised in a song.

The track in question was Kaaliram Ka Baj Gaya Dhol.

Mr Kumar (Kisho)rendered it.

The R D Burman composition, which was penned by Anand Bakshi, mocked the villain, with lines like, “Beech bajariya phat gaya dhol” (which could be translated to, “His drum broke in front of everyone at the market”).
