The lyrics of Hazaar
Raahein Mud Ke Dekhin – from Thodisi Bewafaii – proved why I called
Gulzar the czar of lyrics on a number of occasions in the recent past, with due
respect to other lyricists from the Golden Era.
It was the film’s title track, and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist in 1981.
The song, which Khayyam composed, earned Kishore Kumar the Best Male Playback Singer Award at the same ceremony*.
Lata Mangeshkar joined him behind the microphone.
(Note: Incidentally, Om Shanti Om, Kumar’s song from Karz, was among the nominees too.)
