It wasn’t a fantAstiK number

The third – and final – song on the soundtrack of Darling Darling was its title track, Hello Darling.

The song was penned by Anand Bakshi.

But the song did perpetuate the myth (albeit inadvertently) that only a person who speaks English in India is sophisticated, with ridiculous lines like, “Pranaam to anpadh karte hain, padhe-likhe good morning” (which could be translated to, “Illiterate people greet each other with folded hands, but literate ones say, ‘Good morning’”).

The track, which was (Kisho)rendered by Asha Bhosle and Mr Kumar, was composed by none other than R D Burman.
