The R D Burman composition, which was five minutes and 23 seconds long, was rendered by Lata Mangeshkar and Bhupinder Singh*.
It earned the former the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1972.
Gulzar, who penned the song, directed the film as well.
