As far as lyrics
were concerned, it wouldn’t be incorrect to state that O Meri Sharmeelee,
the title track of Sharmeelee, was the best song in the film.
And the credit for that goes to Gopaldas Saxena ‘Neeraj’.
In fact, a line of the song contained his pseudonym too. It went, “O neeraj naina, aa zara, aa zara” (which could be translated to, “Oh blue lotus-eyed one, please come here”).
The S D Burman composition was rendered by Mr Kumar. There’s no two ways about the fact that his class was evident in his (Kisho)rendition.
