Mangeshkar’s rendition, unsurprisingly, was superb

If the three Lata Mangeshkar solos from Pakeezah on this blog, Chalte Chalte would be the first.

It was the joint-longest song in the film – it was five minutes and 53 seconds long.

The track was penned by Kaifi Azmi, and composed by Ghulam Mohammed.
In 1973, Pran refused the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Be-Imaan (which released in 1972), because he believed the award for Best Music Director should have gone to Mohammed for Pakeezah. Interestingly, it was Shankarsingh Raghuvanshi and Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal who took the trophy home for Be-Imaan that year.
