Expectedly, Manna Dey was magnificent

On listening to some songs, the listeners got the feeling everything was in sync.

And Chham Chham Baaje Re Payaliya – the only song from Jaane-Anjaane (1971) on this blog – was an example of those kinds of songs.

After all, it was rendered by Manna Dey, whose songs were invariably picturised on character actors.

And it was picturised on Shammi Kapoor, who, at that point, was making a transition from leading man to character actor.

The semi-classical song, which S H Bihari penned and Shankar Jaikishan composed, was right up Dey’s alley. Unsurprisingly, he nailed it.
