If I were to
describe O Mere Dil Ke Chain in a phrase, it wouldn’t be incorrect to
state that it was the piece de resistance of the soundtrack of Mere Jeevan
Saathi.
Of course, it is one of the many gems that Kishore Kumar rendered, but Rajesh Khanna, the film’s leading man (and the then superstar), initially didn’t give the track his nod, but R D Burman, who composed it, entered Khanna’s room with his harmonium upon the director’s insistence, and emerged a few minutes later, having earned his approval.
