Roop Tera
Mastana, from Aradhana,
was the song that earned Kishore Kumar the first of his eight Filmfare Awards in
the Best Male Playback Singer category* in 1970.
Anand Bakshi penned the S D Burman composition.
Kumar also rendered its Bengali version (Eto Kache Dujone).
Three key members of R D Burman’s team of musicians – accordionist Kersi Lord, percussionist Homi Mullan (who played the duggi) and saxophonist Manohari Singh – were instrumental in the popularity of the track, whose remixed version – rendered in the 1990s by Shaan – also became popular.
(*Note: It is still a record.)
